What does Wind Breathing actually give you?
Wind Breathing is a dual-form style: most of its moves have a tap version and a held version, which gives it more usable options than the five slots suggest. It was rated C before the balance patch for slow startups, then S afterwards, once v0.98 cut those startups and removed Whirlwind Cutter’s knockback.
Every breathing style uses the same five slots — Z, X, C, V and B — and the moves must be bought with skill points in the skill tree, opened with M, at roughly three points per level. Community pages report a one-style-at-a-time rule, but it rests on a single competitor site, so verify it before planning around it.
Wind’s identity is spacing. The kit has sweeping ranged cuts, a claw attack, and a knockback move that no longer knocks anything back, which together reward players who like to control where a fight happens instead of trading hits inside it. Its buffs are also the most straightforward in the patch notes: every change either shortened a wind-up or stopped a move from pushing the target out of your own range. The breathing styles tier list tracks how far that moved Wind between the two published rankings.
How do you unlock Wind Breathing?
Wind Breathing needs level 25, a human Slayer character, and 50 Demon Horns — the heaviest horn requirement of the eight styles. One outlet also lists a 5,000 Wen charge that the others do not mention. The style is granted after the trainer chain and the Trainee fight, and the moves are then bought from the skill tree.
- Level 25 is the shared floor for all eight styles — Wind, Water, Flame, Thunder, Stone, Sound, Insect and Serpent. It comes from five or more independent outlets but has never been published by the developer, so it stays Community Verified.
- Wall Climb and Double Jump belong to the mobility branch and are the standard trainer prerequisites. The final approach to Saneri is a swim rather than a climb, but the shared training checklist includes a parkour dungeon, and the skill tree guide explains where both skills sit.
- Demons cannot take breathing styles, because the demon path runs on Blood Demon Arts instead.
- The shared training checklist covers Meditation, Push-ups, Boulder Push, Boulder Split, Aim Training and a Parkour Dungeon, ending with the Trainee fight.
Fifty horns is the real time cost of this unlock, and it is roughly five times the Flame or Thunder bill. Start the farm before you commit to the route; the Demon Horns and Beast Cores guide covers the spawn loops, and the leveling guide covers getting to 25 in the first place.
Where is Saneri and how do you reach the ice platform?
Jump from the Iceveil Village bridge into the water below and swim north until you reach the platform in the middle of the water, where Saneri stands. The bear area is the other documented approach into the snow zone, so either enter through Iceveil Village or come down from the bears.
- Reach the snow zone first. From the bear area, turn into the snow and follow the stone path upward; Iceveil Village is the settlement inside the zone, and the bridge is your launch point.
- Stand on the Iceveil Village bridge and look for the water below it. The trainer’s platform sits in that water rather than on the shore, which is why players who search the village itself come away empty-handed.
- Jump in and swim north. The platform is the only structure in the open water, so keep swimming until it is directly ahead rather than angling toward the far bank.
- Climb onto the platform and interact. Saneri is standing on it, and the prompt appears once you are out of the water.
- Expect the cold to be ticking the entire time. The swim is the part of this route that kills people, not the NPC.
The location evidence has one serious conflict. AllThings.how’s own summary table places Saneri on an ice platform in the middle of the water, but another article on the same site says the Wind trainer stands outside a house near Fukushima Village. Games.gg and GamesHorizon independently describe the water platform and the northward swim, so we follow those two and flag the house description as an outlier. Slayers 2 has no in-game world map, so there is no official label that settles it; you navigate by landmarks and by the water itself.
One more naming point: Saneri is both the trainer and a fightable boss. The same NPC encounter is the source of the Wind ultimate and the Wind equipment drops, so when a guide tells you to beat Saneri for loot, it means the platform fight rather than a separate world boss somewhere else. If you are comparing this with the styles that do have same-name world bosses, the Serpent Breathing page and the Stone Breathing page explain those traps.
Why is the snowy route harder than the fight?
Because the snow zone applies continuous cold damage for as long as you are inside it, including every second you spend swimming. The trainer herself is a short fight; the environment is a timer that keeps draining health while you navigate, and it does not stop for a loading screen or a pause.
| Hazard | What it does | How to handle it | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iceveil Valley cold | continuous damage while you are in the snow zone | bring a torch, lantern or cold-protection gear before travelling | Community Verified, multiple outlets |
| The swim to the platform | keeps you exposed to cold damage for the whole crossing | plan it as one committed move rather than exploring the water | Community Verified |
| Yeti and late-game enemies in the zone | ordinary combat risk layered on top of the drain | clear the bank before you jump in | Community Verified, the zone holds a Yeti boss and late-game targets |
The practical preparation is stamina and health, in that order. Every level gives about three skill points, and the widely published priority order is Double Jump and Wall Climb first, then Max Health, then some Stamina, then additional damage and block points. If you have been dumping every point into damage, this route is where that catches up with you, and the skill tree guide shows where to reallocate.
Stamina also comes from titles, which are permanent milestones rather than random drops. Because equipped buffs and passive unlocks behave differently, the table below separates the two.
| Title | Buff, when equipped | Passive, once unlocked | Unlock condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Climber | +10 Max Stamina | +5 Max Stamina | reach floor 25 of the tower |
| Spire Regular | +15 Max Stamina | +7 Max Stamina | finish 50 tower runs |
| Endless | +24 Max Stamina | +13 Max Stamina | finish 200 tower runs, which one outlet reports as 100 |
| Slayer | +10 Max Stamina and 1.02x stamina regen | +5 Max Stamina | survive the Final Selection |
Two caveats on that table. Only three buff titles can be equipped at once, so a stamina title competes with damage and survival titles for the same slots, and the passive column applies whether or not you equip anything. BloxInformer also disagrees with the other outlets about how many tower runs Endless requires, so treat the 200 figure as the majority report rather than a certainty. The titles guide covers the full 49-title list and the buff-versus-passive rule.
What materials does Saneri ask for?
Community sources report 50 Demon Horns at level 25, the highest horn bill of any style. One outlet adds a 5,000 Wen charge that the other outlets omit, so the dialogue box in front of you remains the only number that settles it.
| Requirement | Community-reported amount | Where it comes from | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level | 25 | shared gate for all eight styles | Community Verified |
| Demon Horns | 50 | Hoyuzo Subordinates in the cave behind the Bamboo Grove waterfall (one each), Iceveil Valley High Demons (two each) | Community Verified |
| Wen | 5,000 | listed by one outlet only | single source |
| Beast Cores | no figure reported for Wind | Beast Born Demons near Mistfall and the village by Tom, at night | not confirmed for Wind |
There is a neat shortcut hidden in that table. Iceveil Valley, the snow zone the trainer lives in, is also the denser of the two Demon Horns spawns, at two per High Demon. Farming your 50 horns there means you learn the cold mechanic on your own terms before the swim, and you can bank the horns in the same zone where the bridge jump happens. The trade-off is that the snow drains you while you farm, so bring the same cold protection you would bring for the route.
If Wen turns out to be part of the bill after all, Coin Pouches and dungeon chests are the fast sources, and the money and trading guide explains where to sell them.
What are the Wind Breathing moves and keybinds?
Wind’s layout is the best-documented of any style: Z Mountain Wind, X Purifying Claws, C Rising Dust Storm, V Whirlwind Cutter and B Idaten Typhoon, confirmed identically by two independent outlets, along with the tap-and-hold dual forms that give each slot two behaviours.
| Key | Move | What changed in v0.98 | Confidence on the kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z | Mountain Wind | startup cut from 0.2s to 0.12s | Community Verified, two sources agree on the layout |
| X | Purifying Claws | startup cut from 0.25s to 0.15s | Community Verified, two sources agree on the layout |
| C | Rising Dust Storm | startup cut from 0.25s to 0.18s | Community Verified, two sources agree on the layout |
| V | Whirlwind Cutter | knockback cut from 50 to 0 | Community Verified, two sources agree |
| B | Idaten Typhoon | the ultimate, and a drop rather than a purchase | ultimate name verified by a second source |
The ultimate works differently from every other style’s. Idaten Typhoon is not simply unlocked by buying nodes; you have to beat Saneri herself, with one outlet reporting a 5 percent drop chance. That same fight also reportedly drops the Wind Katana at 5 percent and the Wind Slayer Uniform and Wind Haori at 3 percent each, all single-source figures. If you want a style where the ultimate is a guaranteed skill tree purchase, the Sound Breathing page and the Insect Breathing page both work that way, and the Thunder Breathing page covers the fastest kit in the roster.
The dual forms are the part worth practising before you spend points. Holding a Wind move changes what it does, so the same slot can be an approach tool or a ranged cut depending on input; the community descriptions agree on this at the multi-source level even where the individual form names come from single outlets. Practise on low-level demons near the bear area rather than in PvP, because a fumbled hold reads as a standing still opponent.
What did patch v0.98 change for Wind Breathing?
Patch v0.98 on 21 September 2026 buffed Wind on both ends of its kit. Whirlwind Cutter’s knockback dropped from 50 to 0, which turned the style’s finisher into a usable opener, and the startups on Mountain Wind, Purifying Claws and Rising Dust Storm were all shortened.
| Change | Detail | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Whirlwind Cutter | knockback 50 to 0, so targets stay inside your range | Community Verified, two sources agree |
| Mountain Wind | startup 0.2s to 0.12s | single source |
| Purifying Claws | startup 0.25s to 0.15s | single source |
| Rising Dust Storm | startup 0.25s to 0.18s | single source |
The knockback change is the one that shows up in every tier list justification. Before the patch, Wind’s hardest-hitting move pushed the target away, which meant the style’s best button actively ended its own pressure; the pre-patch C ranking cited slow startup as the other problem, and the patch addressed both in the same pass. Wind is the only style in v0.98 that received no downside in the same notes, which is why its ranking swing between the two lists is the largest alongside Water’s.
No Wind-specific change is documented in v0.110. The block-recharge fix in that patch does affect every stun and knockback interaction at the margins, and the Water Breathing page covers that change in full. The complete patch record with per-claim confidence lives on the update history page.
What is the best Wind combo now that Whirlwind Cutter stopped knocking back?
No frame data has been published, so this is a pattern rather than a confirmed chain. Open with Whirlwind Cutter now that it keeps the target in place, follow with the shortened-startup moves while they are still inside your sweep range, and use the held forms to reposition when a fight goes wrong.
- Open with Whirlwind Cutter. Removing its knockback is the whole point of the buff, and it now doubles as an engage.
- Chain Mountain Wind immediately. Its startup is the shortest of the three shortened moves, so it fits into the gap the opener leaves.
- Use Purifying Claws and Rising Dust Storm to keep the target inside the sweep. These are the two moves whose 0.25-second startups were cut, and they were the reason the pre-patch lists rated the style C.
- Switch to held forms when you need distance. Wind’s dual inputs are what make a style with no counter button survivable, because a held move can carry you out of range without spending your dash.
- Finish with Idaten Typhoon once you actually own it. Until the drop lands, treat the B slot as empty and play the other four.
The mistake to avoid is treating Wind like Flame or Thunder. The documented Wind kit has no counter move and no hyper armor, so trading inside an opponent’s animation loses; the style wins by keeping the enemy inside a sweep while staying just outside theirs. If you want the trade-heavy alternative, the Stone Breathing page covers hyper armor pressure, and the Flame Breathing page covers the burn-and-counter route.
How strong is Wind Breathing in the current meta?
Beebom’s 22 September list, published after the balance patch, puts Wind in S tier. Destructoid’s 20 September snapshot ranked it C and cited slow startups, which is exactly the problem v0.98 fixed, so the swing between those two lists is the clearest example of a patch rewriting a ranking.
| Source | Date and version | Wind’s rank | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Destructoid | 20 September, pre-balance | C | slow startups and a finisher that pushed enemies out of range |
| slayers2-game.wiki | v0.98 meta page | S | grouped with Water and Flame |
| AllThings.how | v0.98 write-up | B in one list, S in another | the same article carries both rankings |
| Beebom | 22 September, post-balance | S | the most recent dated list |
Two warnings belong with that table. First, Wind is one of the two styles where the published lists disagree most, swinging between B and S across outlets, so a single ranking is not trustworthy on its own. Second, the buffs are all quality-of-life improvements to timing rather than raw damage increases, which means Wind rewards execution more than the S-tier styles that simply hit harder. If your ping is high or you play on a controller, that distinction matters.
At maximum mastery the style also unlocks the Wind Perfected title, which adds a small damage factor to breathing styles once equipped. Equipped buffs and permanent passives are separate systems, covered in the titles guide, and only three buff titles can be active at any time.
What is this page based on?
This page is built from Community Verified sources: AllThings.how’s v0.98 patch breakdown and trainer location tables, Beebom’s post-patch tier list, games.gg’s trainer location guide, gameshorizon’s Wind unlock walkthrough, TechWiser’s farming and skill tree notes and the multi-source titles list, cross-checked on 23 September 2026.
Three groups of claims fall below that bar. The 5,000 Wen figure, the drop rates for Idaten Typhoon and the Wind equipment all come from one outlet; the individual startup values in v0.98 come from the same single patch write-up; and the Endless title’s unlock count is disputed between two sources. The Trainer’s dialogue box outranks every number here, and the safest way to confirm the cold mechanic is to walk into the snow and watch your health bar before you commit to the swim.
